Challenges ahead for Finn Valley
It's an interesting time in the annual cycle of an athletic club as athletes
return from summer break, seniors prepare for upcoming Dublin City
Marathon, the rain comes down incessantly and those athletes who have
grown up through the club move to third level education. For the latter
it's
a real challenge as they encounter a new environment, nobody is on
their case and the question always is will they meet the challenge of
the daily training routine in a new environment, only time will tell if
they have sufficient resolve.
Last weekend a number of club athletes turned out for the Ballyare 10k,
an event always associated with one of the greats of Valley namely
Patrick Hegarty. A friendly welcome awaited all and a battle ensued
between Gary Crossan, Kevin Holian, and James Mc Intyre; the eventual
winner was Gary with Kevin and James second and third.
Results and pictures here.
The only Valley team
ever to collect team medals at national senior cross-country was Pat,
Kieran, Charlie and the same James Mc Intyre; the venue outside Cork
City. James is now living in Clare and training for the Dublin event
mentioned earlier.
I was reminiscing about that cross-country victory recently.
