Vivian Cheruiyot confirms for Finn Valley 5k.

Vivian Cheruiyot, Kenya, the second fastest woman ever over 5k at 14-22.59 recorded in Oslo in June of this year has confirmed her participation in the 26th annual Finn Valley St. Stephens' Day event.

This is a tremendous boost for the occasion which has grown in popularity in recent years with some 500 starters in 2006 all running in aid of local charities.

It is the same once again this year, with Breast Cancer Checks and an Aids project in Yola, Nigeria the nominated beneficiaries.

The organisers are anxious to get everyone from 8 to 80 involved in what is a community event attracting runners, walkers and joggers.

The British record was equalled by Mo Farah in 2006 round the roads of the Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar returning 13.29.68 for the 5k distance.

Vivian's participation will focus widespread attention. She is a former world cross country junior champion in 2000 and more recently a silver medallist in the World championships 5k in Osaka. She competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympics at the age of 15 and reached the final.

Finn Valley ac are most grateful to Richard Simms, a club member and her coach/agent, for his assistence in bringing such a world star to the event.

This is a final call to all to come out and participate and aid charity and enjoy a community family day.

Check in at Valley Centre from 12 noon, enter on the day. Start time is 2pm. Everybody welcome.
