AAI Woodie's DIY Juvenile CC Championships at Dungarvan.

Finn Valley Girls in the Medals

The Finn Valley under 19 girls team completed the 2007 cross-country programme on a positive note last weekend with medals in the AAI championships at Dungarvan.

Led by Breda Mc Ginty in 7th, and with a top 12 spot for the much improved Shauna Guthrie and Maeve Culhane in support the task as set out by team coach Mark Connolly was achieved with a bronze medals result.

Rebecca Ward was 4th and Ian Ward 6th in their respective events. Olivia Roe stepped up an age to gain a county medal.

The final outcome was rather disappointing overall.

The good news is that Valley are to host the national B champs on February 3rd. The age groups are under 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 based on this years age range with county and club catered for. In addition there is under 12 and 14 inter county relays 4 x 500m. We can look forward to that and the added bonus that the national under age Track and Field Championships will be held this year in Antrim makes life a little easier. It's all systems go right now for the Stephens' Day 5k. A big push is on to get young and old out for that stroll in the fresh air. Enter on the day and start time 2pm.

This was a great event in 2006, so let's keep the story going.

An added entry is that of Gavin Noble Ireland's leading triathlete currently preparing for the Beijing Olympics.

A group of some 15 Finn Valley members are off to Monto Gordo on January 3rd to 12th to train. Kieran Carlin Richard and Marian are just back from Kenya having spent time at the Kenyan training camp set up some years ago by Richard Simms. See www.finnvalleyac.com for photographic coverage.

See you all on St. Stephens' Day and have a Peaceful and Happy Christmas.
