Finn Valley St. Stephen's Day 5K.
Tremendous response for Finn Valley 5k
There was an enthusiastic response once again for the 36th annual Finn
Valley 5k, with close to 500 checking in to either walk run in aid of
charity.
The challenge was led by world number two Vivian Cheruiyat of
Kenya who returned 16:14 as she strided round without undue effort as
she prepares for a new years eve race in Spain.
Fastest man was the
local athlete Kieran Carlin.
Winner of the event was Helena Mc Daid, Drumkeen now domiciled in
Wales, a former Valley club member.
Race
organiser Mark Connolly expressed thanks to all the contributors to what
continues to secure a successful community event.
Conal Gallen was one
of many celebrities answering the call to walk in what is a busy period
for him. Also in attendance, Sinead Jennings with the
Beijing 2008 Olympics uppermost in her thoughts. Everyone
wishes her well in the quest to get to the start line in China.
The recepient charities are Supporting Breast Cancer Checks in Belfast
and Aids project in Yola, Nigeria.
