Donegal to lure world's elite

Donegal yesterday became the first county in the country to officially
launch a campaign to be a pre Olympic training location for the 2012
Games that take place in London.
Donegal County Council launched their marketing campaign as part of the
ongoing effort to promote the north-west as a premier sporting
destination. An Olympic Response Team has been established within the
Community and Enterprise Division of the council and this will provide
the first port of contact for prospective teams. The council will also
be working in tandem with Donegal Sports Partnership in co-ordinating
familiarisation visits within the county.
The council produced a promotional brochure to profile Donegal's appeal
in terms of accommodation, access, transport, training facilities,
medical support and broadband-telecommunication service. The brochure
will be used as Donegal's calling card to over 400 National Olympic and
National Paralympic Committees and international sports federations
throughout the world.
"I an delighted to launch this marketing campaign that will see Donegal
being promoted throughout the world as an ideal location for pre-games
training for the London 2012 Games," said councillor John Boyle, Meara
of Donegal County Council. "I would like to wish this initiative every
success in its endeavours to capitalise not only on the economic
opportunities for that London 2012 presents but also on securing a
positive sporting legacy for Donegal."
