Ulster senior cross-country at Antrim
After a lapse of some years Finn Valley returned to compete in the
Ulster senior cross-country championships at Antrim on Saturday
last.
The teams was not at full strength and that was always was going to be a
problem and so it
was. The men's team finished 4th team scoring: Kieran Carlin 16, James
Flanagan 19, Dominic Bonner 20, John Creane 25, an injured Kevin Holian 28
and completing the scoring Martin O Halloran 28.
Team scores
Willowfield 116, North Belfast 125, City Of Derry 135, to Valley 139 with
Donegal neighbours Letterkenny also understrength 158.
The team all gave it one
hundred percent and they know that with increased resources in 2009 a
return to the glory days of the event for Valley is on the cards. Finn
Valley had consistently dominated the mens and womens Ulster senior for
in excess of 30 years.
The womens team was an inexperienced squad at this level and closed in
4th team also scoring Teresa Mc Gloin 8, Breda Mc Ginty 13, Shauna
Guthrie 28 and Sally Diver 30th. Teams North Belfast 29, Abbey 47, Lagan
Valley 52, Valley 79 with City Of Derry 80. The one strong memory from
the day the strong team spirit.
Michael Penrose and Paul Doherty travelled to Nenagh Sunday to compete
in the national juniors. Michael was 4th in 29-02 as he simply ran out of
steam as the bronze went at 27-50. Paul was leading in the 60m h when
at 40 m his hamstring went. Thanks to Anne Mc Gill who transported the
lads.
