Valley Masters gain silver with late surge at road relays.

The Finn Valley masters men squad of Dominic Bonner, Jon Creane and Kieran Carlin came with a last leg push to grasp the silver medals in the AAI road relay championships at Raheny on Sunday afternoon. They finished behind the hosts Raheny Shamrock, with Tallaght. Times: Raheny 19.40, Valley 19.44 and Tallaght 19.49 which added to the final excitement of the event.

Valley B finished 9th team and Valley C 12th indicating a healthy entry from the club.

The Masters women, with Sally Diver, Kay Byrne and Gloria Donaghy on duty, finished 7th team while the women's senior squad with Breda Mc Ginty giving them a strong send off in the opening mile finished 6th. That race was won by a strong Raheny squad but once again a real battle ensued with Teresa Mc Gloin and Clionha Dunne giving it their all. The indoor season ended on a high for Breda Mc Ginty a silver in the 800m on what was to be a really busy committed weekend for her behind Ciera Everard, Kilkenny, whose 2.09 was a championship record.

Mark Bonner had a truly strong p.b. in the 800m recording 2-12 odd for silver behind a tremendous performance from Ruairi Finnegan of Letterkenny.

Both can continue to work off each other and lead the rest of Ireland in this age group. Walkers Paula Friel and Michael Penrose collected bronze and with Ann Mc Gill now taking responsibility for this aspect of training, we can anticipate further success. And so ended the indoor season.

A word of thank to Mark Connolly who was present in both Nenagh and Raheny certainly a serious committment.

It's now heads down for schools and club athletics in the months ahead.
