Donegal Uneven Ages and Novice in Killybegs.
The involvement of family members was really evident in the success of Finn Valley young athletes at underage level over the last few weekends. The bus stopped in Killybegs on Sunday and first up was Leanne Kelly winning the under 11 title supported on a winning team by sister Karen and later it was the turn of older brother Georgie to win and lead his team at under 13 level. Similar story with Dooish girl Kathleen MC Ginty under 13 winner and club captain on the day, older sister Breda stepped up later in the day to win the under 19.
Killybegs on a good day provides an excellent opportunity for an enjoyable cross country outing as invariably the kids have ended up diving into the waves a memory they will hold in years to come. THe other individual performances that stand out were that of Oisin Gallen who has begun the season in great style and Mark Bonner still chasing a performance of strength. Ciera Kelly from Convoy gains confidence each day and is only now beginning to show her real potential. The family connection was effected with the Patton family, Dunwiley impacting per Ailish, Pauric and Blaithnaid with Dad Brendan along as coach. Tje club ultimately won u-11 girls, u-13 boys, under 19 girls with silver team awards at u-17 girls, u-15 boys, u-15 girls, u-13 girls and u-11 boys. Overall best club award was accepted by Breda Mc Ginty before rushing off to catch the bus back to NUIM for another week. How the time moves along as it seems like only yesterday that she came with her school Dooish to Schools cross country.
