International Selection for Finn Valley athletes

The masters section that is Finn Valley covered themselves in glory once again at the annual Gerry Farnham cross country in the Phoenix Park Sunday with performances from Dominic Bonner as resilient as ever, James McMahon and John McGlinchey with Kieran Carlin unavailable to compete added in on a wildcard selection. This is just another feather in the cap for these lads as they have beaten all challenges at Masters level in Ireland over the last 7 years since that memorable day at Edenmore in glorious muddy conditions they overcame Clonliffe in AAI masters and thankfully the success aspect has been excellent ever since with Neil Martin and Mark Connolly pushing the routine behind the scenes. Selection also for Ian Ward 3rd junior in the race so he now travels to Belgium Nov 8/9th a preparation race for European cross in December in Brussels. An encouraging run from Darren McGlinchey in addition as the LYIT student continues to get back to a realistic for him lead position. Valley closed in 4th team. Teresa McGloin again had a mature performance and Clionha Dunne showed improvement. Earlier the the day a number of Valley women joined the Womens only annual 3k from the LYIT with about 100 facing the starter on a far from ideal morning. Well done Grace Boyle and her helpers once again.

This Saturday 78 young athletes head to UUJ for even age AAI Ulster cross and as always it will be interesting to ascertain where we are at as the real sharp end of life now kicks in. Dublin City marathon on Monday with Kay Byrne taking that in and we wish her well.

Sympathy is extended to Paul Gallagher ,Drumboe on the death of his mother . May she rest in peace . Paul worked for many years at the club Centre
