Valley Get Together to Recall Years Gone By

Finn Valley AC are currently involved in a project to log in a complete photographic record of the history of the club all 38 years of it to date and on Saturday night last the club hosted a dinner in the Finn Valley Centre for some 120 people closely associated with the day to day operation of the club. Kieran Carlin who has taken responsibility for this ambtious undertaking has to date inputed 1100 pictures which he had on a screen rolling over on the night. All will be up on the website www.finnvalleyac.com in time. It includes many aspects of athletics during that period not limited to Finn Valley in fact some excellent Lifford and Letterkenny AC related stuff as well.

The occasion also provided club chairman with an opportuniyty to record thanks to all who keep the show on the road as it were the coaches, staff, committee and supportive parents indicating that we as a group also reach out to the community in many ways as a myriad of activities are undertaken at the Centre. Hence we contribute to the community on a grand scale. In 2008 reference the physical development -- floodlights, upgrade of astro, re-cycling and tartan were successfully acheived thanks to Conor McGonagle who led this out. Vast numbers continue to attend training and we continue to involve similar large numbers in various competitions. A successful year with all present contributing.

Special guests were double paralympic gold medallist Jason Smyth and his coach Stephen Maguire to whom presentations were made by Rev. Tony Adamson on behalf of Finn Valley.

The members of Finn Valley extend sincere sympathy to Ann Murphy and her family on the death of her mother Delia during the week after a short illness at her home in Blanchardstown. May she rest in peace.

This weekend its Ballyhaise and nationals with the additional announcement that Lough Key Forest Park is venue for B cross and cross relays in the new year and we hope to have confirmation of Scottish indoor dates this week.
