Rathmullen 5k & Strabane 10k

On Friday night Rathmullen the 11th race in the Donegal Grand Prix series took place. Warm sunny conditions for the 152 athletes a record number of for any race this series. David Wilson once again would come out triumphant. A hard fought battle to the line with James Flanagan FVAC saw an exciting race. Four athletes broke away at the 1st Kilometre James Flanagan, David Wilson, Kieran Carlin and Dermot Grant. Going through the 2k Grant had dropped off the remaining 3 going through in a time of 5.50. Coming to the incline at 3k the three protagonists still locked in battle, 4k Carlin began to drop whilst Wilson and Flanagan began to push the pace. 400m to go Flanagan pushed for the line, Wilson with his experience hadn't give up, pushing to the line and dipping to beat Flanagan by the width of a hair, Carlin crossing the line an easy 3rd with Johnny Patton 4th. The Finishing time Wilson 15.18 Flanagan 15.19, Carlin 15.31, Johnny Patton 15.48
In the ladies Teresa Mc Gloin getting back to form, having a notable performance running 17.09. Teresa also running on Sunday in the National League 3km for Tir Chonaill AC, finishing 3rd in a time of 10.06 a good opener for the track season.
Other notable Valley performances were Andrew Scanlon getting a new PB of 19.57 breaking the 20min barrier. Hugh Gallagher new PB 18.27, Colin Mc Nulty new PB 18.03, Kieran Kelly 21.05, all 4 athletes have notable performances considering they have just taken athletics up recently.
On Saturday the Strabane 10k teed off at 12noon. Winning the race Stephen Duncan whist Pauric Mc Kinney was 2nd. The ladies race won in a time of 37.30 By Bridge Connolly North Belfast, Kay Byrne FVAC 4th in a time of 40.02 min. Eunan Scanlon had an excellent race battling to gain a new PB with a time of 42.06. Gloria Donaghey having a good run in a time of 47.06 also in the winning the team with Kay Byrne.
The next race in the series will take place in Cranford, the J.G. Memorial 4.2mile starting at Logue's Bar at 7.30pm
