Kelly gets National Record

John Kelly coached by his father John Senior broke the Irish record in the Discus today at the 1st day of the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships Tullamore Co Offaly. The Royal & Prior student winning the Discus, with a throw of 40.99m, having throwing 38.67m in the 1st round and a no throw in the 2nd the press was on to perform in the last round. Also wining in the 2km Steeplechase was Pauric Mc Laughlin, Pauric carrying on from his win in the Irish schools. In a relatively slow race in the early stages and then a burn up in the last few laps, Pauric came out on top with a time of 6min 17 sec, Rebecca Ward also a student at the Royal & Prior was also in good form getting 3rd in the Long Jump with a jump of 5m.16cm. Anthony O Hagan a new kid on the block from Castlefin National School had an excellent throw n the shot putt, with great encouragement for his Teacher Liam Breen, Anthony took up the shot putt after the Annual Donegal Schools T&F held at the Finn Valley centre each June. Anthony now coached by John Kelly had a great throw of 8.95m getting Bronze Medal great reward for the budding talent.

Day 2, John Kelly once again showed a glimpse of his talent, returning for the 2nd day’s competition in Tullamore John now in his preferred event the shot putt, having previously broken the record John would once again break that record with a throw of 15.11m, Michael Gallagher also an emerging talent would finish 3rd in the Shot Putt whilst he would take Gold in the Javelin 39.67. Other notable performances on the day were Pauric Mc Laughlin finishing 2nd in the 3km, Gavin Mc Laughlin 3rd in the Javelin 25.69m. Congrats to Louise Harvey Tir Chonaill AC winning both the 100 & 300m Hurdles also Mark English in the 800m and Emer Boyce Cranford winning the Javelin.

Friday evening at the Carnford 4.2mile, David Wilson continued his winning ways. Running a time of 21.33 David easily won from Ivan Toner who ran 22.58 senior women’s race being won by Helena Crossan Inishowen AC in a time of 25.49.
