International selection for Valley Five
Finn Valley ac have had 5 athletes included on the Various Master cross country Irish group team to compete in Birmingham Nov 14th . THe athletes concerned are Kay Byrne who leads the national squad in her age category . Kay has had a remarkable career to date at international level threading back some 20 / 25 years and this selection simply underlines her continued enthusiasm. Included also is Pat Hegarty from Ballyare who has a similar involvement as with Kay over many years being individual Ulster senior Cross country champion on numerous occassions and team leader of successful Valley squads at that level and onwards to national . Dominic Bonner the Gweedore man whose claim to a mention in the history of Donegal athletics is that he scored on every Finn Valley national winning masters team 7 in all . THat is a feat unlikely to be ever repeated . James Mc Mahon based in England continually comes up to the mark on days like this and will relish a 'home 'venue namely Birmingham . Finally making up the numbers in the famous Valley 5 is Castlederg man Kieran Carlin coming back to form after a bout of flu . KIeran has a strong pedigree in the sport since his introduction now living for many years in Ballybofey he is competing ,coaching and indeed completely immersed in the day to day life that is his local club . WE wish these athletes well and indeed the various Irish squads . Birmingham November 14th .
