Mc Gloin breaks course record in Ballyshannon

Teresa Mc Gloin returned a lifetime best 15-51 to win the Ballyshannon 5k Friday night a new club road record and inside her course record at this venue in 2009 previous best stood at 15-59 to herself and Catriona Mc Granaghan . Other Valley competitors in the event Kay Byrne 18-24 a most encouraging return Raymond Doherty 19-12,Cliondha Dunne 19-17,Miriam Bonner a whooping pb of 19-57,accompanied by coach Marlk Connolly 19-57 ,SArah Byrne21-09 and Mary Connolly 20-09. Well done all next race in the Grand Prix series May18th in Letterkenny the annual inter firms also a good atmosphere and a large turnout.

IN the States KIeran Carlin won a 5k road event in Florida in serious heat .

In Dublin Pauric Mc Laughlin finished 2nd Wed night in Santry a 1500m in 3-57 odd and he should get down near 3-50 this season . He returned to the track Sat for yet another 1500m but had a dnf.

On Saturday Noel Collins had an encouraging 800m returning 1-53 odd to finish 2nd . .

THis week its district schools in Antrim and on THursday evening last we had the County under 9/10/11 champs with numerous good performances none more so than Glenfin lad Aaron Mc Glynn ,Stranorlars Amy Crossan , Castlederg girl Summer Lecky ,kilygordon s Lauren Callaghan and finally Nikita Mc Devitt daughter of former international Margaret Gallen . Next outing for this group plus under 12/13 is again Finn Valley 6pm May 20th with local schools on May 25/26 and County finals JUne 2nd hence a busy schedule ahead.

DEmpsey Mc Guigan competing across in England had a pb with the 6kg hammer underlining good form as he prepares for Moscow in next few weeks the European youth olympics meet . He had spent a most valuable weekend with a leading coach in Glasgow recently and his mother Carolyn is to be commended for her endeavours in ensuring he continues to get strong support .

Training is flat out just now Tuesday/Thursday and Sunday morning 9-30 for the senior endurance group and at an agreed time Saturday morning in the forest . Group training is essential and every effort must be made to come together.

A word about the Belfast marathon relay in which Mark Connolly had 9 teams competing a remarkable response from the Aghyaran area . Well done to all .
