| Busy Schedule for Finn Valley AC |
|
Last weekend was a competition free weekend for Finn Valley athletes and the opportunity was taken by all to train. A very successful squad session was held at the club for all juveniles, senior and veteran athletes. The club wish to thank all coaches Elibhlin Crampsie, Peadar McGranaghan, Patsy McGonagle, Neil Martin, Sean Carlin, Christine Feely and Bernie Alcorn. It is important that all athletes attend Sunday morning training as well as training on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Finn Valley have now a busy schedule ahead as they prepare for various competitions. Juvenile athletes are preparing for upcoming Cross Country competitions as well as Sporthall and Irish and Scottish Indoor Championships. Senior and Veteran athletes are now in the middle of Cross Country Season and looking forward to Belfast Internaional Cross Country as well as Irish Intermediate, Veteran and Senior Cross Country Championships. Next Saturday 19th January the Fila International Cross Country takes place at Stormont Estate, Belfast. Finn Valley have a full squad of Senior and Veteran men and women competing. Catriona McGranaghan will also be presenting Ireland as she will be part of the Irish International panel. The big dissappointment to Finn Valley is that their athlete Jerome Brooks had to pull out of the Irish squad due to injury. The club wish Jerome a speedy recovery and hopes to see him back in action shortly. Congratulations to Catriona on her selection and best of luck to all. Also next weekend the Veteran Indoor Championships takes place in Nenagh and Valley have a number of competitors. Donal Reid competes in the High Jump while his brother Bosco will be competing in the Throws events. Both Donal and Bosco won their events in the Outdoor competition last year. James Gibbon92s will be making his debut as a Veteran in the Walks section. Best of luck to everyone competing at the weekend. On Sunday 27th January AAI Juvenile "B" Cross Country Championships Of Ireland will be held at ALSAA. Finn Valley92s juveniles will be competing in all age groups as well as U11 and U13 relay teams. More about this next week. Congratulations to Joe Byrne who has been selected on the Irish U23 team to compete in Celtic International Cross Country to be held in Dublin on the 27th January. Finn Valley will be hosting the AAI Intermediate & Veteran Cross Country Championships of Ireland on Sunday 10th February at Edenmore, Stranorlar. The club is looking forward to this challenge as the race is the biggest National Cross Country Meeting of the season. The club must be congratulated on taking such a Meeting to the County. The club had a lot of activity last weekend with the Donegal GAA ladies team training at the centre on Sunday. Finn Harps held a very successful Indoor Soccer Tournament also on Sunday. Work is still on going on the Finn Valley Web Site. This will be of great interest when completed. Training continues at the club every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30pm and Sunday morning at 10.30am. |
