Young Ryan McDaid Continues his Crusade for Finn Valley AC

Last weekend Finn Valley juveniles made the trip to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish Indoor championship. Young Ryan McDaid of Burtfoot who won the U11 All Ireland Cross Country title and ran brilliantly all through the Cross Country season winning both individual and team medals has now turned his talent to the track. Ryan in his first ever indoor championships won the Scottish Indoor High Jump and 800m title. Aiden Connolly son of Mark from Athyaran was 4th in the High Jump. A total of 23 juveniles traveled from Finn Valley and the trip was used as competition experience. The club wish to thank Richard and Bernie Alcorn, Bridget Boyle and Liam O Neill team managers who traveled with the juveniles. This was not a easy weekend for team managers as weather condition made the journey long and hard. The scheduled boat was canceled due to stormy weather but this did not restrain the Valley troops. Well done to all.

Valley's Joe Byrne continues to run well and keeping in touch by e-mail. Joe recently won a 5.5ml race in a time of 27.10. Joe will be competing in the blue and white for FV with the rest of the Finn Valley team in the All Ireland Senior Cross Country to be held on 24th February.

Finn Valley now look forward to next weekend when they will be hosting the All Ireland Veteran and Intermediate Cross Country Championships. This will be a very exciting day for the club. Valley Ladies will be competing to retain their team title. No Ulster club team has ever won the men's team title and this year Valley will be confident to break that spell. A good turnout of supporters is expected. Best of luck to all.

Also next weekend the All Ireland Juvenile Indoor Combined events will take place in Nenagh. Finn Valley have 12 athletes competing . Best of luck to all.

The club has recently purchased a new Indoor landing mat to the cost of 3000. This will improve the coaching facilities at the club and is very welcome by all.

A coaches meeting was held last Thursday night to organize coaching. The club has now over 240 athletes and this figure is increasing all the time. An introductory coaching course will be held for parents and anyone interested in coaching. All coaches will be given support by the club.

Ticket sales are going well for the presentation dance to Patsy McGonagle Donegal Person of the Year. Neil Martin is the liaison person for tickets and if interested Neil can be contacted at the club as soon as possible.

The club extends sympathy to Grace Boyle club official on the recent death of her Uncle Brendan McDaid of Ramelton. R.I.P
