Valley Shine at National Track and Field Indoor Championships.

Last Saturday and Sunday the National Senior Indoor championships took place in Nenagh and Finn Valley had a number of competitors with Clodagh McCool winning a silver medal in 1500m, Jeff Cassin and Anne McGill winning bronze medals in the walks competition.

Kieran Carlin competed in the 3000m on Saturday and had a strong race finishing 5th overall finishing in a time of 8.52. This was a great blow out for Kieran who competes in the all Ireland Cross Country championships and it will also give him confidence for the up coming track season.

On Sunday Clodagh McCool ran a storm of a race in the 1500m finishing a strong 2nd behind Geraldine Hendricken of St L. O92Toole92s. This was the best performance ever by the Ballybofey athlete who took off from the start of the race and never lost ground. Clodagh just after returning home from Liverpool where she qualified as a PE instructor and now working in Strabane competed with Finn Valley as a juvenile and will now be a great addition to the senior ladies CC squad and proved today can do well on the track circuit.

Jeff Cassin also performed very well in the senior 5000m race walk finishing 3rd overall. Jeff who is more used to the 50K walk was disappointed in 2000 when he just missed out on the qualifying A standard time for the Sydney Olympics. Jeff  married recently and is now resident in Dublin is well over his disappointment and is preparing for the European Championships to be held in Munich later this year.

James Gibbons also competed in the walk finishing 5th over all in a time of 22.52 improving well as he prepares for the British Veteran Indoors Championships to be held in March.

Barry McGill was unlucky to have missed out on medal placing in the junior boys race finishing 4th overall.  Barry can be pleased with his performance as he improved his time by over one minute and is heading in the right direction.

The club also which to congratulate Gabriel O Donnell of Cranford (Junior Walks title), Sharon Foley, Lifford (Triple Jump title) and Geraldine Stewart Donegal (Shot Putt title). Well done to all.

Finn Valley92s juveniles traveled to Glasgow last weekend to compete in the Scottish Indoor championships. Kevin Feely had a fine performance in the shot finishing 2nd with a PB of 13.11m. Kevin was unfortunate last year to miss most of the season through illness and good to see him performing well. This was a great experience and learning trip for all involved and the club wish to thank team managers Christine Feely and Shaun Carlin for traveling with the juveniles and for giving up their time.

On a local note a 5k road race was held in Bonagee last Sunday and Charlie Gallagher coming back into form won the race in a time of 15.16 with Kevin Holian closing behind in 15.17. Anthony Murray as 1st veteran (17.07), Martin Martin 1st senior lady and Margaret Murray 1st Veteran. Drew Doherty and Paddy Bond also competed.

Finn Valley now look forward to the AAI Senior and Junior Cross Country championships to be held at ALSAA next Sunday. The bus leaves FV at 8am and anyone wishing to travel please give your name to Neil Martin immediately. Best of luck to all competing.

Ticket sales for the presentation for Donegal Person of the Year are going well. Anyone wishing to attend and have not tickets would need to give their names to Neil Martin, also all outstanding money to be paid this week.
