Clodagh McCool selected on Irish University Team

The big news for Finn Valley this week is that Clodagh McCool of Dunwiley Stranorlar has been selected on the Irish University team that will be competing in the World University Cross Country Championships to be held in Spain. Clodagh started her athletic career when she was a juvenile at St Mary's national school in Stranorlar. She studied at John Moore University in Liverpool and graduated as a PE instructor. Clodagh has had a great season so far this year. She ran a brilliant 1500m at the Indoor National Senior Championships in Nenagh last month and came second individual. She was a valuable new comer to the FinnValley Women's senior cross country squad this year and played an important role in regaining the National Senior team title for the club. She was also part of the winning short course team. Congratulations to Clodagh and the club wish her the best of luck. Also congratulations to Gary Murray who has also been selected on the University team.

Gold for Bosco at British Veteran Indoor championships.

Valley's Bosco Reid traveled to Glasgow last weekend to compete in the British Veteran Indoor Championships and won gold in the shot. Bosco athlete career goes back to when he was a youth and was coached by Patsy McGonagle at Finn Valley.  Bosco now resides in Buncrana and is very involved with Finn Valley as a throws coach. Congratulations and well done Bosco.

Next weekend is a big festival on the athletic calendar, when the World Cross Country Championships will be held in Leopardstown. Valley's Noeleen Porter and Catriona McGranaghan have been selected as reserve for the Irish team. A large number from the club will be traveling to watch the world best compete over the two days of the championships.

The club were delighted last weekend to have the Dublin athletes (Niamh Beirne, Maria McCambridge etc) training at the centre. This is something that the club would envisage to develop in the future

The club wish to congratulate Conor and Marie McGonagle on the birth of their baby daughter. Conor son of Patsy and Rosaleen McGonagle is well known in the athletic world and both himself and Marie very active in the running of the club. Marie is Assistant Secretary while Conor is on the committee.

All primary schools please take note that the 5th June is the date set for the final of the Donegal Primary Schools athletics.

The club wish to thank and congratulate the Donegal County Board for the presentations made on Friday night to honor the athletes of the year for 2001. Patsy McGonagle received a presentation from the County Board to acknowledge his achievement as been selected Donegal Person of the Year. Eamon Giles also received a presentation for his years of service to the County Board.
