Last weekend a number of Finn Valley athletes competed
in the
Omagh half marathon and the results were very positive. In the ladies
sections
Finn Valley ladies ran as a team and competed very well with Annette
Ferry
(102.33), Margaret Murray (102.37) and Mary Martin (102.59) winning
3rd team behind Sligo AC 2nd and Sparta
3rd.
Margaret Murray also won the over 45 individual category. Well done
ladies. Finn
Valley men also won 3rd team with Anthony Murray continuing
his good
form from Cross Country winning the 050 category in an excellent time of
78.26,
Jimmy Shiels 83.44 and Jim Hynes 102.28. Well done to all.
With the cross country season now over Finn Valley are in full swing training now for upcoming juvenile season and road and track season for senior athletes. This weekend FinnValley's juveniles make the trip to Nenagh toy compete in the All Ireland Juvenile Uneven Aged Indoor championships. Valley have a large number of athletes and coaches traveling to the championships. Best of luck to all. Also this weekend the All Ireland National Road Relays takes place in Raheny. Finn Valley have teams competing in all categories. Best of luck to all involved. Clodagh McCool makes her big debut next weekend when she competes for Irish Universities in Spain in the World Universities Cross Country Championships. The club wish Clodagh the best of luck in this competition. This Wednesday trails for a Donegal Community Games Cross Country team will take place in Milford.
Introduction to Coaching Finn Valley are holding an Introduction to Coaching Course in the centre on Saturday 20th April 2002. The course will cost Euro 50 but any club member interested will have the course paid for by the club. This course is seen as the initial part of the training/education process for all coaches. It is obligatory. The course provides coaches with the basic concept of coaching theory and introductory coaching steps of the four event (100m , 1500m, long jump, shot putt) of our sport. Aims of the Course to arouse the interest of prospective coaches, parents, teachers, ex-athletes and trainers and leaders of young athletes in the coaching of athletes. to provide the participants with basic coaching and organizational skills necessary to carry pout the work of a coach to show the participants how to introduce the athletes to one basic event from each of the four major areas of our sport Anyone interested in the course should give their names to Patsy McGonagle immediately. Irish Milers club. The Irish Milers club will be holding 3000m race in Santry on 24th April. This is a good opportunity for track athletes to test out their fitness and a warm up for the incoming track season. Donegal Primary Schools Sports All Primary Schools please note that the County finals for Donegal Primary Schools have now been changed to Thursday 6th June. Local primary schools competitions will be held on 14th and 15th May. More information to be given later. The Donegal Year Book is published under the auspices of the Donegal Association of Dublin and is now in its 22nd year of publication. The Editor for 2002 is Patricia Sharkey and contains articles on recent events by writers and photograpers from around the County as well as items of interest to Donegal people abroad. Finn Valley wish the launch to best of success. Training continues at the club every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30pm and Sunday morning at 10.30am. |
