FINN VALLEY JUVENILES TOP ULSTER RANKINGS Congratulations to the club's juvenile athletes who have come out as top Ulster club once again in the overall rankings after two weekends of intense competition at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh. The results are as follows: 1st Finn Valley A.C. on 17 points, 2nd Letterkenny A.C. on 16 points, 3rd Shercock A.C. on 14 points, 4th Sparta N.W. on 13 points, 5th Glaslough Harriers on 8 points, 6th Innyvale on 7 points, joint 7th Cranford A.C. on 5 points Canon Burke A.C. on 5 points and Mid-Ulster on 5 points, 10th Enniskillen on 4 points, 11th Strathearn on 3 points, 12th Sliabh Liag on 3 points and joint 13th Milford, St. John Bosco and Ballymena & Antrim on 1 point. At the National Championships 118 clubs from all over Ireland won medals with Leevale A.C. from Cork finishing top of the National rankings, followed by Celbridge in 2nd position and D.S.D. in 3rd. Two Donegal clubs did particularly well with FINN VALLEY A.C. finishing in 12th position overall in the Country on 17 points closely followed by LETTERKENNY A.C. finishing 13th position overall. Both these clubs are to be congratulated taking on the larger towns and cities in the Country and coming out in the top 10%. Other Donegal clubs rankings were 53rd Cranford A.C., joint 82nd Sliabh Liagh and joint 94th Milford and St. John Bosco. Introductory Coaching Course: There was a very successful Introductory coaching course held at the Finn Valley Centre at the weekend by Eamon Harvey with 36 participants, 19 from Finn Valley A.C. Finn Valley members to attend were Charlene McGowan, Bridget Boyle, Clodagh McCool, Sally Diver, Christine Feely, Maureen Doherty, Ann Gallagher, Kthleen Merritt, Noeleen Porter, Brendan Patton, Geselda Penrose, Mark and Rosemary Connolly, Seamus McGranaghan, George Gallen, Michael McGranaghan, Celine Friel, Joey O'Leary and Patsy Doherty. There will be a brief coaches meeting at the Finn Valley Centre on Tuesday evening at 8.30 p.m. All coaches are asked to attend if possible. Ann McGill took part in the 20k walk in Manchester at the weekend. Ann who was using this race as part of her training just completed 10k as intended and on a cold, windy day recorded a time of 57 minutes and 17 seconds. She will now re-evaluate her training as she prepares for Veteran and Senior Championships in the up-coming season. Jeff Cassin dropped out of the 50k walk. The AAI Annual Congress will be held in Galway this weekend where Patsy McGonagle will be up for Vice-President and Neil Martin will be seeking the Ulster position on the executive. Congratulations to club members Charlie and Colette Gallagher on the birth of their son. Training continues as usual on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7.30 p.m. and at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. |
