| Valley Compete in North West 10K |

The annual North West 10K was held last weekend. This was a very successful event with over 900 runners and walkers taking part to support the three local charities. Finn Valley had a large number of competitors. In the senior men92s section Valley92s Charlie Gallagher was the lead runner and won the race in just over 32 minutes. Charlie92s wife Collette gave birth to their first child two weeks ago and Finn Valley wish to congratulate them both. Valley92s Pat Hegarty as always showed his good form and can still compete with the best finishing 2nd. In the ladies section Rosaleen Campbell was the winner. Rosaleen who has been out of the racing scene for some time was part of the Valley92s senior ladies squad and played a vital role in their winning all Ireland team titles down the years. It is great to see her back on the race course. Noeleen Porter who has had a brilliant season all year finished 2nd lady. James Gibbons was the first man home in the Walks section finishing in a time of 48.20. James will be pleased with his performance as he prepares for the World Veteran Road Walks to be held in Italy. Finn Valley wish to congratulate all their members who competed specially their juveniles who took part in the event. Well done to all. This year the AAI had a grand prix for the National Cross Country season 2001-2002 (top six get prize fund) The club wish to congratulate Catriona McGranaghan who was 6th and received her prize some weeks ago. Also congratulations to Noeleen Porter who finished in top 12. Next weekend the National Road Relay Championships will be held in Navan. Finn Valley have teams competing in Senior Men and Women, Veteran Men and Women. Best of luck to all involved. Next Thursday Glenties will be holding their District Primary School sports commencing at 10.30am. All schools in the area have been notified and should make an effort to attend. All qualifiers will go through to the County final to be held at the Finn Valley Center in June. Following is the dates and venues for Bob Mullan Motors 5K Series 2002 29th May Brooke Park 19th June City Centre 24th July Lisnagelvin 14th Aug Creggan 18th Sept Templemore. All races commence at 8pm with prizes for first six Senior Men, first three Senior Women, Veteran first three over 40 plus first 2 O 45s, first O50, O55 and O60. Veteran Women First two 35 plus first O45 and O55. Junior Men First two U20, first U17 Junior Women first U20 and first U17. Medals for everyone who does all five races but finishes outside of prizes. Work has now commenced on the construction of an All Weather pitch at the rear of the club. This is a very ambitious development costing over 400,000 Euro and will add greatly to the amenities of the club. Training continues for all on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7.30pm. Also on Sunday morning at 10.30am. |
