McGonagle Estonia Bound - Gold for Valley Team in Paul Nihill Shield.
Last weekend the senior Grand Prix race walking took place in Phoenix Park alongside the Paul Nihell Shield (underage match between the top underage walkers of Ireland and England). Valley had success in a number of events.

In the Paul Nihell Shield Valley's Nikki Alcorn and Fionnuala Bruton represented their country and club in the U15 girls 2000m race. Both girls performed very well with Nikki finishing 6th in a top class field and Fionnuala 9th winning Finn Valley the team title on 15 points from Monasterevin AC 16 pts and West Waterford 23 pts.

In the National Senior 20K Valley's Yvonne Cassin now walking in the Finn Valley colours had a excellent walk finishing 3rd earning her first Irish national senior medal. Anne Mc Gill was 4th. Jeff Cassin and James Gibbons had to pull out of the race due to injury and the club wish them both a speedy recovery and hope to see them back shortly on the racing scene.

Gesilda Penrose also made her debut and competed in the 3000m Veteran race and finished 2nd O35.

All races was organized by Bernie O Callaghan and his son Pierce and the club wish to congratulate them on their commitment to the event.

Donegal Community Games

Also last weekend the Donegal Community games Finals took place at the Finn Valley centre.

A number of Valley juveniles now go through to the finals.

Convoy's U12 relay took the gold medal and Christopher McBride won the 80M. Great praise must go to Liam Mailey for the coaching and commitment he has given over the years to the community games in Convoy area.

The Twin Town U17 boys relay team also won gold with Joe McGinley, Mathew Larkin, Kevin and Pauric Feely. Again well done to all workers involved.

Maurice Boyle of Rosses won Boys 1500m and will be delighted with this performance.

Maeve Culhane won the girls walks section.

Grainne Nangle, S. Connolly and Paul McGrath were all on winning relay team.

Finn Valley were delighted to host these finals and were delighted with the success of the event.

Patsy leads the Irish team to compete in Estonia

Patsy McGonagle once again leads the Irish team in Estonia for the Europa Cup. Ireland at present is competing in League 2 of the competition and it is Patsy 91s ambition to take Ireland into League 1. Patsy has a life long commitment to athletics and is well experienced, and he is the person that can achieve this. It is hoped that this event will be staged in Dublin next year. Finn Valley wish Patsy and his team the best of luck.

Tailteann Games Selection

The club wish Nikki Alcorn and Kevin Feely the best of luck next weekend as they compete in the Tailteann Games in Tullamore on Saturday. A busy weekend for both athletics, as the both compete on Saturday and then travel to Antrim on Sunday to compete in the Ulster Track and Field championships.

Ulster Juvenile Track and Field 14--19 Year old championships

Next weekend Finn Valley's juveniles 14 - 19 year old travel to Antrim to compete in the Ulster track and field championships. Bus arrangements to be given at training. Best of luck to all competing.

Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30pm and Sunday morning 10.30am.
