New Donegal Record by Valley's Bosco Reid

Valley's Bosco Reid had a great performance last weekend when he competed in the National League final guesting for Letterkenny AC. Bosco threw the hammer 32.44 breaking the old Donegal and club record which was previously held by Roy Sproule with a throw of 31.08. Bosco then went on to compete in the Northern Ireland track and Field championships where he once again broke his own hammer record with a throw of 32.53 winning himself the Northern Ireland Championship title. However Bosco did not finish with just the hammer throw. He went on to win the shot, javelin and discus competition. This has been a great season for Bosco with winning both British and Irish veteran titles and this was a great way to finish his season. Bosco is a very committed coach and athlete to Finn Valley and has been with the club since it early years. Along with the dual help of Bobby Fullerton, Bosco has set up a very successful athletic squad in the South Inishowen area. Finn Valley will build a men's team next season around Bosco for the National League.

Other athletes who competed well in the Northern Ireland Championships where Bosco's brother Donal Reid who won the High Jump title with a jump of 1.55 and came 2nd in the Long Jump 4.96. Dominic Bonner who hails from Gweedore had a fine run in the 5000m taking first spot with club mate Pat McElroy winning the bronze medal. Gesilda Penrose new to the competitive scene this year won the 3000m walk and shot putt.

Dessie's Run

Margaret Synott competed in the Dessie's 10k race and proves to be improving all the time finishing 1st lady in a time of 37.00. Pat McElroy finished 2nd veteran in a time of 34.30.

Monaghan 5k

The Murray family performed well in the Monaghan 5K with Anthony winning the over 50 section in a time of 17.01 and his wife Margaret taking the over 40 section with a time of 22.01. Also their son Gary set a new Donegal Record in the 1500m in Namur, Belgium. Gary's time was 3.46.02 and the club wish to congratulate him on this achievement.

The club also wish to congratulate Gary Crossan on winning the National half marathon which was held in Carlow and Tir Conaill AC on their performance in the National League final.

Noeleen Porter on Irish Team

Noeleen Porter has been selected on an Irish team to compete in a 10k race in Cardiff next weekend. The club wish Noeleen and the team the best of luck.

Juvenile Presentation

Finn Valley will be holding a presentation night for juveniles on Sunday 15th of September at 7pm sharp. It is expected that all parents will attend as it is to acknowledge the fine performances this year of the juvenile squad at National championships. This has been the strongest year ever by Finn Valley who have come out of the season as the best club in Ulster and will be getting a National ranking later on this year. 37 juveniles have received national championships medals and it is encouraging to see the numbers improve. The club wish to acknowledge the work of coaches and wish to invite any person interested to join the coaching squad as help is always needed. A coaches meeting has been held and plans now are well under way for the up-coming cross country and indoor season. Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30pm sharp and all are expecting to attend.

The next Finn Valley club meeting is on Thursday 12th September at 9pm. Valley will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Monday 30th September time to be given later. It is hoped that all club members and any one wishing to help will attend this meeting.

Work continues at the back of the club on the new pitch. It is hoped the same will be completed shortly and ready for use in the near future

Finn Valley wish to sympathize with Jean Harron and the Harron family on the death of her father. Jean and family have been very involved with Finn Valley down the years.
