Charlie Gallagher Wins North West 10KCongratulations to Charlie Gallagher on his impressive victory in the North West 10K last Sunday. Charlie won the race in a time of 32 minutes 24 seconds with Letterkenny's Gary Crossan 2nd in 33 minutes 35 seconds. Alan Cavanagh had an excellent run also winning the U19 section in a time of 34 minutes 13 seconds. Noeleen Porter was 3rd in the Senior Women's race in a time of 37 minutes 49 seconds. Ann McGill won the walking section and Pat Hegarty won the Masters men's section in 34 minutes 37 seconds. There was a very good turnout for the race with 900 runners and walkers taking part with thousands raised for various local charities.
Donegal v Connaught MatchMany of our athletes were competing on Saturday in the Donegal versus Connaught match in Sligo. In the juvenile section there were excellent victories for Laura Feely in the Shot, Aileen Brennan in the High jump (1.45m), Ian Ward in the 1500m 4.22 minutes, Breda McGinty 1500m 4.59 mins. and Bronagh O'Doherty Long jump. Other excellent performances in the juvenile section were Maeve Culhane 2nd in the 1500m Walk and 2nd in the 800m, Breda McGinty was also 2nd in the Long Jump and 3rd in the High Jump, Bronagh O'Doherty was 3rd in the 100m and 200m U17, Denise Beirne was 4th in the 100m and 200m (28.45, a new p.b.) U16, Shane Bonner 3rd in the U16 1500m and Darren McGlinchey 3rd in U16 800m. In the Over17/Senior Section Geraldine Kelly won the Long Jump, Alan Cavanagh won the 3000m (9.26) and 5th in the 1500m (4.32), Seamus McGranaghan was 2nd in the Shot, 2nd in the Javelin and 4th in the Long jump, Stewart McClean, 3rd in the 100m and 3rd in the High jump, Stefan Connolly 4th (2.08.08) and Enda Doherty 5th (2.08.20) both recorded new p.b.s in the 800m,. Frank Chaney 6th (2.09.36) and Gerard Bogle 7th (2.10.80). Brendan Alexander was 4th in the 100m and 4th in the 400m.
North West Coaching CourseThe 2nd North West Coaching course was held at the Finn Valley Centre on Sunday morning and it was a great success once again. The next Coaching session is planned for 7.00 p.m. on Monday, 9th May also at the Finn Valley Centre; all athletes at Ulster level from U13 upwards are encouraged to attend.
