Donegal Track and Field Championships

The 2nd round of the Donegal Track and Field Championships for the even age groups, Juniors, Seniors and Masters was held in Letterkenny on Sunday.

Stewart McClean, who continues his excellent season, was a triple gold medallist winning the Junior 100m, 400m (52.6) and shot putt. Paul Doherty also continuing his great form winning the sprint 100m (12.12), 200m (24.5) double U16 and also winning bronze in the Shot. Breda McGinty also showed her versatility winning the U16 200m, 1500m and bronze in the long jump. Justin Browne was delighted with his gold medal in the U12 Shot and put in a terrific finish to win the bronze medal in the 200m as well. Karen Ferguson was also to the fore once again winning the U14 1500m from team mate Niamh Doherty, Karen was also 3rd in the 200m. Ian Ward, Darren McGlinchey and Shane Bonner had a clear one, two, three in the U16 1500m showing why they have been the National Cross-Country Champions in their age group for the past 6 years. Shane then went on to win the 2000m Walk in great style. Siobhan Gallagher was also a Gold medallist in the U16 shot winning her first County Title.

Cormac Gallen won silver in the U14 Shot narrowly missing the gold. Silver also for sister Ciara in the Shot and bronze in the Long Jump U16. Brendan Alexander won three silver medals in the Junior 100m, 400m (58.5) a new p.b. and in the shot. Ciara McGarvey was just pipped at the post in the U12 200m but ran an excellent race to win the silver medal. Mark Bonner and Owen Bonner were 2nd and 3rd in the U12 600m in a very exciting race. Eilish Patton U16 and Enda Doherty U18 both ran well to win bronze in their respective 1500m races. Denise Beirne also put in a strong finish to take the bronze medal in the U16 200m.

Seamus McGranaghan won the silver medal in the Senior men’s shot and Frank Chaney won the silver in the Senior 1500m. Gerard Bogle won the Masters 1500m and George Gallen won the silver medal in the Masters Shot.

International in Bratislava

Congratulations and good luck to club coach Neil Martin who travels as Irish Team Coach this week to the Small Nations International in Bratislava.

Irish Schools Track and Field Championships and Ulster Track and Field Championships

We have a number of athletes travelling to Tullamore on Saturday to compete in the Irish Schools Track and Field Championships while closer to home on Sunday at the Finn Valley Centre our U9 to U13 athletes will contest the Ulster Track and Field Championships. We wish them all the best of luck.
