Flanagan wins at Donegal Town

Ballyshannon man James Flanagan had to fight of the advances of Finn Valley youngster Alan Kavanagh in the closing stages of a very well supported and competitive 5k Donegal Road Grand Prix at Donegal Town on Friday night, to win in a time 15 mins. 56 secs. Edel Mooney from Tullamore was the first women home in 12th position in an excellent time of 17 mins 36 secs on a route that was unforgiving. Donegal Co Council decision to ‘tar and chip’ almost 1,500m of the fastest part of the course was not appreciated by the record number of athletes that turned up.Gerry McMonagle, Cranford, Male V1, 17mins 20 secs, John Cannon Male V2 18 mins.2secs, Siobhan Gallagher, Tir Chonaill,Female V1 and Vera Haughey, Tir Chonaill, Female V2 were all impressive category winners

Thanks

Eamon Harvey on behalf of the local St John Bosco/Tir Chonaill clubs – organisers of the race – prior to the presentation of prizes at the Abbey Voc School thanked all the athletes for travelling to compete in such large numbers, the Abbey Voc School for putting their facilities at the disposal of the race, St John Ambulance for assistance in stewarding and medical back up out on the course, Letterkenny AC for supplying the electronic timing car, officials, helpers and sponsors Ulster Bank, Donegal Town, David Doherty, All Sports and the St John Bosco Club.
