Valley Masters Continue Winning SequenceFinn Valley continued their dominance of middle/long distance in Irish masters athletics having won the national cross-country, road, and road relays. The challenge on Sunday was to win the 5k team championship at Navan; this they completed in style with Ciaran Carlin leading the way and winning the event; and with excellent support from welcome new recruit Martin O'Halloran. Martin, who can achieve quiet a lot in the years ahead with this squad was third on this occasion and Dominic Bonner making up the scoring team. The valley B team took bronze with Frank Chaney, Gerard Bogle and John McGlinchey. So another fine performance for Neil Martin's squad. It is an opportune time to acknowledge his continued input to the senior/masters scene. The club hosted the ulster 9-13 age group championships on Sunday in excellent weather conditions; this was a most enjoyable family day. Again the organisation was first class and each event was well supported with a good entry. For Valley, Roisin ni Chuirreain, Ryan Kelly, Ciara McGarvey, Claire Ward, Justin Browne, Sarah Doherty, Siobhan O'Donnell, Dylan McNamee, and Caoimhe McMenamin all stood out. This weekend it is Ulster underage 14-19 at Antrim with transport leaving 7 a.m. from the club going via Letterkenny each day. Bus cost €10. Brian O'Domhnaill from Falcarragh who recently returned to competitive athletics with a silver medal in the national 20k walk won the Ulster senior title in Belfast on Saturday. He continues his comeback with a international walk event in Leamington this weekend. We wish him luck. Newsletters by Niall McGonagle, Club P.R.O. |
