Tailteann Gold for Ian WardIan Ward continued his excellent season with a victory in the Tailteann Games At Tullamore on Saturday last. His time 4.02.01 was impressive, considering that he won the title so easily. The Royal School Raphoe student now gains his Irish Schools vest next month in the 1500m in Glasgow. There were bronze medals for Paul Doherty in the hurdles and Fionnuala Bruton in the walk; unfortunately Paul needed needed to get into that top two to gain selection and Fionnuala was seven seconds off selection pace. Both will be disappointed but must chase strong medal positions next weekend again in Tullamore to close their season. Laura Feeley finished 5th in shot while Shane Bonner was most unfortunate to miss out due to illness. This weekend in Cork Kieran Mc Connell competes in shot and discus in the national junior championships on the back of some excellent recent performances: 15.90 odd in the shot and a 45m plus in the discus. Bernie Alcorn has recently returned from Budapest where she acted coach/manager for an Irish junior squad that put in some great performances. |
