Two Golds from Tullamore

Two Valley athletes shone at the national junior and under 23 championships at Tullamore on Sunday.

Kieran Mc Connell came to the event having done extremely well in a recent meeting in England while Brendan Alexander came in search of title and also an elusive 3m vault.

Both were successful. Kieran won the shot on 15.14m and was second in discus at 43.70m. Kieran is a son of Packie, now domiciled in Milton Keynes, and is originally from the Cross; he has competed for Valley since his early days notching up many under age titles. The club really appreciate his committment to travelling across for particular events over the years and wish him well.

Brendan Alexander cleared that 3m mark and collected gold at U23 level; this is a fitting reward for his aptitude and committment. Brendan is a student at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

This weekend action moves to Tullamore over the two days national 14-19 age groups. This proved a most successful outing for club athletes last season and provides an opportunity for a number of really strong performances.
