National League success for Finn Valley

Finn Valley’s men’s and woman’s teams competed in the 1st round of the
National League in Navan on Sunday with excellent performances throughout.
Our teams were a mixture of senior and juvenile/junior athletes and they all
thoroughly enjoyed the experience of league athletics.

In the womens league we finished 2nd in Navan with 100 points behind City
of Lisburn on 122 and when the Limerick results were taken into
consideration we are currently lying in 3rd position nationally which is an
excellent result. In the men’s league we also finished 2nd in our pool on
107 points behind City of Derry on 124 and are lying 4th nationally.

We had excellent performances and maximum points from to Nicola Alcorn 1st
1500m Walk, Clodagh McCool 1st 1500m, Catriona McGranaghan 1st 3000m with
2nd place finishes from Aileen Brennan in the High Jump, Laura Feely in the
Shot and Hammer and 3rd place finishes from Jodie Stewart in the 200m and
Long Jump, Teresa McGloin in the 800m, Aileen Brennan in the 100m Hurdles,
Ciara Gallen in the 400m Hurdles, Ciara also got great points for us in the
Javelin 4th and Discus. Denise Beirne also giving valuable points 4th in the
Triple Jump. We finished 2nd in the 4 x 400m relay and 4th in the 4 x 100m.

In the men’s division the day started off well with a victory for Clive
Heapes in the Hammer followed by Brian O’Donnell’s victory in the 3000m Walk
with 1st place positions also going to Kieran Carlin in the 5000m, Brendan
Alexander in the pole vault and Kieran O’Grady in the shot. Paul Doherty
managed to finish the 110m Hurdles despite a very bad fall at the 2nd last
hurdle to record 3rd place, Paul also finished 2nd in the 100m in a new p.b.
of 11.8 and 4th in the high jump. Pauric Feely was also a valuable point
scorer with 2nd in the triple jump and 3rd in the long jump. Brendan
Alexander probably our busiest athlete having already scored maximum points
in the pole vault finished 3rd in the 400 hurdles and 4th in the 200m and
also ran extremely well in both relays. Seamus McGranaghan had an excellent
2nd place in the 56lb WFD and Martin O’Halloran finished 3rd in the 1500m.
Frank Chaney was 4th in the 800m as was Kieran O’Grady in the Discus and
