Primary schools athletics at Finn Valley Athletic Club



Finn Valley area primary schools athletics proved a tremendous success despite difficult conditions held May 17th & 19th. A total of 800 youngsters competed over the two days and once again organisation was excellent. Those who qualified now compete in finals on June 7th. Back at Finn Valley, with an 11am start Schools participating were St. Mary’s Castlefin, St. Mary’s Stranorlar, Welshtown, Murlog, Scoil Mhuire, Donoughmore, Lifford, Gleneely, Dromore, Glencovitt, Sessiaghoneill, Raphoe Central, St. Eunan’s Raphoe, Dooish, St.Cairealls, St. Davog’s, St. Patricks Castlederg, Clady, Drumkeen.

This event has developed from the early days in the 1970’s where the venue was Mac Cumhaill Park. An interesting spectator on both days was John Carlin, Crossroeds who was part of the early development, as was Liam Merritt, Manus O’ Donnell N.T., Patsy Mc Ginty, Michael Houston (R.I.P.) Anthony Gillespie, Eugene Quinn N.T., Mick Doherty (R.I.P.) Hugh Gallen (R.I.P.) Amongst others.

The organisers Finn Valley A.C. are grateful to the support staff who helped and the students of Stranorlar vocational and St.Columba’s College who helped.
