27th December 2003: The annual Boxing Day event has once again provided the opportunity for the people of The Donegal Community to meet up, discuss the year gone past and reunite with old friends, work off the turkey and support a worthy cause. The damp conditions proved not to be deterrent as the numbers rose to a new high of a hundred and twenty entrants. With a sixteen minute handicap, present form went out the window as everyone was in with a fighting chance, as the overall winner 11 year old Aoife Whelan was soon to prove...

All-Ireland Gold for Valley in Killybegs
16th December 2003: The All-Ireland even age group and Novice Cross-Country Championships were held in Killybegs last weekend. Finn Valley juveniles were looking forward to this championship with defending champions in the under 14 boys in good shape and they certainly did the business winning the Gold medals easily. A total of 27 medals were won by Finn Valley athletes on the day in the under 12 to under 18 Championships ... Boxing Day Handicap Race announced ...

Cassin Family Double at Phoenix Park
9th December 2003: Jeff Cassin was very happy with his performance in the Phoenix Park Dublin Road race Challenge winning the race with an excellent time of 90.45 for 20K. To make it a family double his wife Ivonne was also delighted with her excellent performance over 5K in 24.50 winning the womens race. Anne McGill also had an excellent performance in the Masters event finishing 2nd with 29.33 for 5K... Charlie Gallagher and Kieran Carlin tie for 1st place in Letterkenny Turkey Trot 5K ...
Valley Successes at Mullingar
2nd December 2003: Finn Valley athletes, Senior and Juvenile, travelled to Mullingar last weekend for the National Senior Inter-Country Championships and the juvenile uneven age groups Championships... In the Senior Inter County Championships Donegal won the silver medals in both the men's and women's Championships with many Finn Valley Athletes scoring on both teams ... The Juvenile Championships proved to be a bit of a roller-coaster experience with many ups and downs ...

Finn Valley Double in the Masters Cross-Country Championships
17th November 2003: Finn Valley Masters won both the Women's and Men's Team Titles at the County Masters Cross-Country Championships in Cranford ... Individually Kay Byrne was in 3rd position in the women's race with Maeve McElroy and Nancy McNamee making up the winning team ... Dominic Bonner continues his good form winning the individual title in the men's Masters Championships and leading his team to victory. Joe Brennan, Bernard McCabe and Mark Connolly all on the victorious scoring team... Valley Win Mar Memorial and Juveniles Retain Top Ulster Club Title
10th November 2003: Finn Valley men won the much sought after War Memorial Trophy at the Ulster Cross-Country Championships in Killybegs last weekend. Michael McGlinchey won the individual title... Maeve McElroy took bronze in the ladies 3K ... The Ulster Juvenile Cross-Country Championships (even age groups) also took place in Killybegs on Saturday... As expected Finn Valley athletes dominated winning the overall title once again with Three team Gold, two team Silver, two team Bronze and one 4th team position...

Ulster Juvenile Cross-Country success for Valley
28th October 2003: Finn Valley juveniles contested the first round of the Ulster Cross-Country Championships on an excellent course in Ballyclare, Co. Antrim last Saturday. Despite the majority of our athletes being out of their age groups they came away with three Team Gold and three team Silvers and three individual placings. The club is now favourite to take the overall top club in Ulster title once again... Michael McGlinchey finished 3rd in the Ulster Novice Championships while Charlene Rushe finished 7th in the women's novice race ...

21st October 2003: The Finn Valley Seniors and Masters travelled to the Phoenix Park in Dublin to compete in the Gerry Farnan Memorial race... The Senior women won the team title ... In the Senior men's race Finn Valley finished 2nd behind Raheny ... Noleen Porter and Kay Byrne selected for Masters Home Countries International in November and in Men's James McMahon, Dominic Bonner and Jim Hynes selected ... Finn Valley juveniles travelled to Killybegs on Sunday for the second round of the Donegal Juvenile Cross-Country Championships and totally dominated the championships with Five Team Golds, Two Team Silvers and One Team Bronze with no less than 14 individual top three placings ...

22nd September 2003: The Donegal 5k road championships were held in Lifford last Sunday and this also was the final event in the Donegal Grand Prix series. Valley's Kieran Carlin finished 2nd with a time of 15.13 ... the Valley boys packed well together with Kevin Holian 3rd 15.15 and Charlie Gallagher 5th 15.46, Dominick Bonner 6th in a time of 15.48 and he was also the first in the Masters category... Clodagh McCool 2nd lady in 17.36 and Noeleen Porter 3rd in 1740... Kieran Carlin was the overall winner in the Senior Men's section while Dominick Bonner took the Master award. Golden Weekend for Club at Juvenile Championships
21st July 2003: Finn Valley juveniles were in Tullamore once again last weekend. After the U11 to U13 individual Championships and relays the previous weekend, the older juveniles had a lot to live up to. In fact they excelled themselves winning an unprecedented twelve individual National medals, three gold, three silver and six bronze plus many personal best performances...

Brian Kerr to Open Valley's New Pitches
30th June 2003: Ireland Soccer Team Manager Brian Kerr has agreed to officially open four new synthetic grass pitches at Finn Valley Center on Monday 14th July at 7pm. In addition to Brian Kerr a large number of local politicians, local community and club members past and present will be in attendance. 23rd June 2003: The Tailteann Games took place in Tullamore last Saturday and Valley's Nikki Alcorn was selected to compete in the 3000m race walk. Nikki competed very well finishing 5th overall in a time of 17.30 ... Kieran Carlin wins Finn Valley festival 5k in 15:32 ... Kevin Holian was 2nd in 15:46 and Frank Chaney 3rd in 16:35 and making it one, two and three for Valley. Valley's women were also 1, 2, 3, with Noeleen Porter, 17:44, Catriona McGranaghan, 17:59, and Margaret Synott, 18:16. 16th June 2003: The Ulster and Northern Ireland Juvenile Championships were held in Antrim last Saturday and Sunday. The U14 and U15 age groups were held on Saturday with terrific performances all round... the U-14 800m was the race of the day and saw the very talented Ian Ward take gold with a p.b. of 2.15 from the very talented Dan King of Milford ... Ian made it double gold by winning the 1500m in another p.b. (4.43), Dan King again having to settle for second ...

Donegal Primary School Sports -- Results
5th June 2003: The 33rd Donegal Primary Athletics Challenge was held at Finn Valley A.C. on 4th June and proved a tremendous success. As in previous years, the event was supported by Donegal Creameries, represented by Mr. Donal Reid.

Overall, 1062 youngsters participated in the event which was superbly organised by members of Finn Valley A.C. and County Secretary Bernie O'Callaghan...

Kieran Carlin wins 25th Anniversary Inter-Firms
2nd June 2003: Letterkenny AC celebrated the 25th anniversary of their Inter-Firms race last Tuesday and the event was marked by beautiful weather and over 100 competitors competed in the event. Carlin competing for MS Ireland won the event in a comfortable style in a time of 15.19. Ciaran was followed by another Valley competitor Charlie Gallagher who led his team ESB home in 2nd in 15.52... Patsy Doherty, Neil Martin, Richard Alcorn and Bridgeen Doherty who competed in this year's event all competed in the original 1978 race... results from All Ireland School's Sports ...

19th May 2003: Valley's Jeff Cassin competed in the European Race Walking Cup which was held in Cheboksary in Russia. Jeff competed in the 50k in a personal best time 4.01.01 improving on his previous time by over three minutes and just missing out on the B standard for the World championships ... Valley's Ivonne Varas Wins International Grand Prix Race Walk in Donegal Record-breaking Time
28th April 2003: A number of Finn Valley athletes travelled to Leamington Spa last weekend and returned with some very encouraging results... Ivonne Varas (Cassin) who had been struggling with injury all week competed in the Women's 20K and won the event in a Donegal record time of 1.44.22... Three of our juveniles also travelled to compete in the juvenile event and did themselves very proud. Nikki Alcorn competing for the first time at 5k distance finished a very strong 9th in the U17 girls race, while Maeve Culhane finished 11th and Charlene Kelly finished 12th in the U15 Girls... Barry Harron fastest time of day at National Relays as team taks bronze ... Valley Boys 4th ... Masters 3rd.

Historic Day for Club at National 10K Championships
13th April 2003: Finn Valley hosted the National 10K championships last Sunday and what an exciting day it was for the host club. Their senior men made history by winning their first ever all Ireland championship title, while their Masters men retained their team title. This was the first Finn Valley senior team ever to win an All-Ireland team championship title. Finn Valley were 1st with Galway City Harriers 2nd and Letterkenny 3rd. Ryan McDaid Steers Valley to Record Breaking Victory
6th April 2003: Valley's juveniles made the long trip to Nenagh last weekend to compete in the National Juvenile Indoor championships. Valley have experienced great success this past number of years at juvenile level and this weekend was no exception. The championships were held over two days, Saturday and Sunday. Valley enjoyed medal success plus many of their athletes gaining personal best and an experience that will stand to them in future competition...

Valley's Juvenile Success Rolls on in Nenagh
23rd March 2003: Valley's juveniles travelled to Nenagh last weekend to compete in the All Ireland Juvenile Indoor championships. Valley returned home with four all Ireland medals and a number of their athletics produced personal best performances... A number of Valley athletes competed in the St Patrick's day race. Kevin Holian won the opening road race of the 2003 season finishing in a time of 15.19...

9th March 2003: Valley's James Gibbons had a impressive race last Saturday when he competed in the IV European Master's Indoor Championships which were held in San Sebastian, Spain... The club wish to congratulate Nikki Alcorn, Stephan Connolly and Alan Kavanagh who were all part of winning teams at the All Ireland Schools cross-country...

Once again our competitors did the club proud with success for our juveniles at the Scottish indoor championships in Glasgow. Success in the Isle of Man for Jeff Cassin in the 50k Walk and success for our senior cross-country athletes in Rathdrum Co. Wicklow ...

Valley's Ivonne wins Bronze at World Record breaking National Irish Indoor championships
16th February 2003: The Irish Indoor Athletics championships were held last weekend in the Odyssey Arena, Belfast... The first race of the day was 3000m walk and Gillian O'Sullivan of Kerry got the championships off to a glorious start by setting a new world record of 11.35 ... Our own Ivonne Cassin fought gallantly finishing 3rd in the race and was pleased with her time of 13.51.01, winning herself her first All Ireland Indoor championships medal... Anne McGill 4th in a time of 16.23... Ivonne's husband Jeff competed in the men's 5000m and was very pleased with his performance finishing 6th overall ...
