Success for Valley at National B Championships and Scottish Masters Indoor Championships

Last weekend was another successful competition weekend for Valley's athletes. Our juveniles travelled to Killybegs and results were excellent. In the Masters section Bosco Reid travelled to the Scottish Indoors championships and was delighted with his results.

National B Championships

In Killybegs the first race of the day was U11girls and young Emy Slevin was Valley's first medal winner scoring on the Donegal team which won gold. Emy having a great start to her athletics. Also well done to all the other U11 boys and girls who competed very well.

U-12 Girls

U12 Girls finished 2nd team with Valley's Niamh Doherty, Catherine Gallagher, Fionnuala Lindsay and Jodie Stewart making up the total Donegal team. Valley's B team of Eilish Patton, Aoife Whelan, Clara Dunnion and Siobhan Gallagher finished strongly to take third team.

U-12 Boys U12 Boys had a very exciting race and all ran strongly to take the team victory. Gavin Carlin, Lorcan McMenamin, Pauric McLaughin along with Darren McBrearty of Lettekenney making up the strong winning Donegal team.

U-14 Girls

U14 Girls was one of the most exciting races of the day with a very strong battle all the way between Donegal and Cavan. Breda McGinty took the first leg and handed over to Brona Doherty. Maeve Culhane had a strong race gaining ground to second place and handed over to Ciara Connolly of Letterkenny who lead the Donegal team home to gold medals.

U-14 Boys

U14 Boys finished 2nd with the team of Ryan McDaid, Ian Ward, Dermott Fullerton and Andy Dorrian of Letterkenny.

U-15 Boys

Valley's U15 boys competed very well finishing a very strong second place with Mark McGowan finishing 3rd individual followed by Brian Patton, Packie Mailey and Ross Wurrity. This was a very strong team performance considering that seven of this team squad was absent as they were not eligible to compete.

Congratulations to all team coaches on these results and the club wish to thank all who help and supported on the day. Also congratulations to Bernie O'Callaghan and the Killybegs team on their brilliant organision of the course. Their hard work was well rewarded by the perfection of the competition and no doubt we will see more National Championships held in Killybegs in the future.

Gold for Bosco at Masters Indoor Championships

Bosco Reid opend his season to a good start by winning the shot in the Scottish Indoor Championships. Bosco was delighted with his throw of 11.52. Bosco now competed next weekend in the Irish National championships and hopes to compete in the British Masters in three weeks time.

Raheny Five miles

Valley's Jamie Lewis had a very good run in the Raheny 5 miles road race finishing 7th overall in a time 25.03. The race was won by Mark Kinneally of Raheny.

Donegal Sports Star Awards

A very good night was enjoyed by all on Friday night last at the Donegal Sports Star Awards. The club wish to congratulate their own Ryan McDaid who won the schools boys sports award. Also James Gibbons and Anne McGill who were part of the Race Walking team which took the team award. The club also wishes to congratulate Eamon Giles who took the Hall of Fame award.

European Club Cross-Country Championships

The Finn Valley ladies travel to Jaen in Spain next Friday to compete in the European Club cross-country championships. The team of Noeleen Porter, Margaret Synott, Kay Byrne and Catriona McGranaghan will compete on Sunday. Neil Martin travels as Team Manager. The club wish the team all the best of luck.

Irish Masters Indoor Championships

The Irish Masters Indoor Championships will take place this Saturday in Nenagh and Valley have a number of competitors. Reid brother Bosco and Donal, James Gibbons, Pat McElroy and Anne McGill.

In Sympathy

The club extends its sympathy to Gerry Gallagher of Cranford on the sudden death of his wife. Also to Cranford AC where Gerry and his family are very prominent members.
