Quiet Weekend for Most Valley Athletes. Last weekend was a quiet weekend of competition with Valley's Margaret Synott been the only athlete in action. Full advantage was taken by all for a busy training weekend in preparation for upcoming competitions. Northern Ireland Senior Ladies Cross-country Championships Margaret Synott made her come back from injury at the Northern Ireland C-C Senior championships and finished 5th overall. The club are delighted to see Margaret back in action and hopes the season continues to go well for her. Ulster Schools Championships The Ulster schools championship was held last Thursday. Finn Valley wish to congratulate Stephan Connolly, Alan Kavanagh and Nikki Alcorn all who have qualified to compete in the All Ireland Schools championships to be held in Dublin on the 8th March. Best of luck to all. Scottish Juvenile Indoors Championships
This weekend is a very busy weekend for all athletes as our juveniles make the journey to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish Indoor championships and our senior athletes head to Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow to compete in the AAI Inter Club cross-country championships. Our juveniles leave on Friday at noon from Finn Valley and team coaches are Bernie Alcorn, Anne Gallagher, Christine Feely, Patsy Doherty, Sean Carlin and Brid McMenamin. The club wish all the best of luck. National Cross-country Championships Our seniors head to Rathdrum on Saturday and compete on Sunday. Senior women's team is Noeleen Porter, Kay Byrne, Margaret Synott, Noreen McConigley and Maeve McElroy. Our senior women will be competing to retain their team title. Our senior men's team will also be competing to get into the medals positions with Jerome Brooks, Pat Hegarety, Kevin Holian, Dominick Bonner, Jamie Lewis, John Creane, Kieran Carlin and Mark Connolly. Finn Valley wish all the best of luck. In Sympathy Finn Valley were very sad to learn the news of the death of Patsy McGowan (brother of Kay Byrne and Sean McGowan). Patsy was a very valuable committee member some years ago and will be missed by all. The club extends their sympathy to Kay and Sean and all the McGowan family.
