Quiet Weekend for Valley Athletes
On Saturday and number of club coaches and athletes went to Derry to prepare for the their relay competition. Then on Sunday another very success coaching session was held at the club. Our senior and master athletes are all now training towards National 10k championships to be held on 13th April at Valley center and National Relay championships to be held towards the end of April. A busy time ahead for the club. Valley's only competition last week was Jamie Lewis who had a very successful competition in the Downpatrick 10k where he won the race in a time of 31.27 and this will now add to his confidence as he prepares for the National 10K which will be hosted by the club in two weeks time. Patsy McGonagle has now set a date for the Donegal Primary Schools athletics Annual Challenge which is 4th June and starts at 11am at the Finn Valley center. This is the 33rd annual event with 86 schools participating in 2002. This is a date now for all to keep in mind and more details will follow in coming weeks. Contact person is Patsy McGonagle 087 2226112. A coaching day will be held at Finn Valley on April 12th with registration at 9.30am An open invitation is being extended to teachers/newly qualified coaches etc. to come along as a learning experience. Course fee is 5 Euro and course to run 10am to 4pm. For further inquiries contact 087 2226112 or 087 6317676. Apologies to Brendan Culhane who was incorrectly named last week in the notes. Brendan came 5th in the U16 boys shot put. An excellent performance by Brendan as he is new to this event. Also left out of notes last week were Lee Lindsey who competed in the St Patrick's 5k race in a time of 18.26. Also Micheal McGlinchey who competed the course in 17.06. Good to see Micheal return to the racing scene. The London Marathon takes place on the 13th April the same day as National 10K and a number to look out for is 46263 which is that of John O Brien who will be flying the Valley colors. Next weekend our juveniles and coaches head once again to Nenagh to compete in the National Juvenile Indoor championships. The bus leaves Finn Valley on Friday at 2.30pm sharp. |
