New Season Begins

Annual General Meeting

The club held its A.G.M. on Monday night last and the following officers and committee were elected.

Officers

President: Mr. Patsy McGinley. Chairperson: Mr. Patsy McGonagle. Secretary: Maura Reid. Assistant Secretary: Bridgeen Doherty. Joint Treasurers: Kieran O'Donnell and Rosaleen McGonagle. P.R.O.: Bernie Alcorn. Records Officer: Mark Connolly. Juvenile Competition Secretaries: Ann Gallagher and Maureen Doherty. Senior Competition Secretary: Neil Martin. Registrar: Grainne McGowan. Children's Officer: Rosemary Connolly.

Chairperson's Address

The Chairperson Mr. Patsy McGonagle recalled the successful year gone by both in terms of the facilities at the centre and in competition where the club had its most successful year since it was founded in 1971. The club's athletes performed outstandingly with the juvenile athletes winning over 120 National medals in Cross-Country, Indoor athletics, Combined events, Scottish Indoor Championships, and Track & Field. The Senior and Veteran athletes also had a fantastic year winning many titles both individually and in team events at National level. Many of our athletes represented Ireland during the year at juvenile, senior and veteran level.

New Season

The cross-country season is about to get into full swing, indeed, with some of our athletes having already performed very successfully at the recent primary and secondary schools championships held at the Finn Valley centre. On Wednesday last 403 secondary school athletes from 17 different schools took part in a very successful Secondary schools Cross Country. Finn Valley athletes who were in the top three individual positions are as follows:

First Year Girls Jackie Gibson, 2nd, Second Year Girls Brenda McGinty 1st, Fourth Year Girls Nicola Alcorn 2nd.

First Year Boys: Conor McNulty, 2nd; Second Year Boys: Ian Ward, 3rd; Third Year Boys: Alan Cavanagh, 1st; Maurice Boyle 3rd.

The club season gets underway on Sunday, 12th October in Milford for the County Novice and uneven ages County Championships. Details of bus times etc. will be posted on the club notice board. The County Intermediate and even age groups will be held in Killybegs on the 19th October. Other important dates to keep in mind are the Ulster/NIAF Novice and Uneven ages in Ballyclare, Co. Antrim on the 25th October and the Ulster/NIAF Intermediate and even ages cross-country, War Memorial and JC May, in Killybegs on the 8th November.

Sympathy

The club wishes to express sincere sympathy to Alecia Quigley and her family on the tragic death of her mother Eithne.
