Finn Valley Seniors Win the Double in the County Championships

The Club's Senior athletes were in action last weekend competing in the Donegal Senior Cross-Country Championships held in excellent conditions at the Finn Valley Centre.

Senior Women

Noeleen Porter finished in 3rd place, Catriona McGranaghan 4th, Kay Byrne 5th and Maeve McElroy 11th. The team once again retained their title, 2 points ahead of Letterkenny A.C.This was another fantastic performance by our Senior Women when you consider that Finn Valley have not been beaten in the Women's Senior Championship since 1972. Noeleen fought it out with Margaret Synott for most of the race with Margaret just pulling away over the final 800m. Another strong run from Catriona McGranaghan who is coming in to good form and the evergreen Kay Byrne who continues to perform at a consistently high standard over the years. Maeve McElroy provided the vital backup to ensure the team retained their title.

Senior Men

Kieran Carlin was our lead runner here in 3rd position followed by Barry Harron 4th who is making a great comeback, Dominic Bonner 5th, Charlie Gallagher 6th, Michael McGlinchey 8th and Simon Ward making up the scoring team who took victory on 38 points with Letterkenny A.C. 2nd on 53 points. Conal McBride 15th and Bernard McCabe 23rd provided good back up.

Masters

Congratulations to Pat McElroy who has been selected on the Northern Ireland Team for the Masters Cross-Country International in November. He competed in the Northern Ireland Trials on Saturday in Comber and finished 4th. Dominic Bonner competed in the Open race and finished a very good 9th.

Dublin Marathon

Noreen McConigley was delighted with her excellent time of 3 hours 35 minutes in the Dublin Marathon. Well done. Seanie McDevitt was close behind on 3 hours 36 minutes.

Reebok Challenge

Patsy McGonagle and Patsy Doherty travelled to Birmingham last weekend with the U15 and U17 boys. The U15 boys finished in 11th place with good runs from Conor McConnell in 32nd, Diarmuid Fullerton 54th, Kevin Gallagher 65th, Maurice Boyle 73rd and Brian Patton 90th.

The U17 boys team finished in an excellent 5th place with another great performance from Alan Cavanagh finishing 15th in a very high standard race. Mark McGowan, 50th, Stefan Connolly 51st, Ross Wherity 69th, Ronan McCabe 70th. These athletes will have gained very valuable experience from competing in such a high class race.

Ulster Juvenile Championships -- even age groups

The second round of the Ulster Juvenile Championships -- even-age groups, will take place on Saturday in Killybegs. Travel arrangements on the Club Notice Board. Good luck to all.
