Cassin Family Double at Phoenix Park
Phoenix Park WalksJeff Cassin was very happy with his performance in the Phoenix Park Dublin Road race Challenge winning the race with an excellent time of 90.45 for 20K. To make it a family double his wife Ivonne was also delighted with her excellent performance over 5K in 24.50 winning the womens race. Anne McGill also had an excellent performance in the Masters event finishing 2nd with 29.33 for 5K. Congratulations to all.
BallyclareMark Connolly travelled to Ballyclare on Saturday and made the journey worthwhile with a very good performance finishing 5th just beaten in the sprint for the line but certainly getting back to form.
Turkey TrotLetterkenny A.C. held their very popular Turkey Trot 5k on Sunday morning with Charlie Gallagher and Kieran Carlin tying for 1st place in a time of 15.34. Catriona McGranaghan was 3rd woman home in 17.07. Colin McBride was delighted with his P.B. of 16.03. Bernard McCabe was the leading master in the men's race with 16.57 and a welcome return to racing for Pat Hegarty who has been out for almost a year with injury and was delighted to be back running again. The Finn Valley Novice Men, Women and our even age juvenile athletes will all be in action this weekend as all roads lead to Killybegs for the National Cross-Country Championships. This is a big undertaking by Bernie O'Callaghan and his club, Killybegs A.C. and we wish them well. In addition to our Men's and Women's teams who will be competing in the Novice Championships we will have seven juvenile teams challenging for medals. The under 10 juvenile Championship will be held at the Finn Valley Centre at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, all supporters welcome. The under 12 up to under 18 championships will be held on Sunday in Killybegs. The bus will be leaving the Finn Valley Centre at 9.00 a.m. Sharp.
European Cross Country ChampionshipsThe club wishes Good Luck to Ireland's teams in the European Cross Country Championships which will be held in Edinburgh also at the weekend. Congratulations to Patsy McGonagle who is Irish Team Manager for the event. Ireland are hoping to win the Women's Team Championship for the first time ever.
Kieran McConnellCongratulations to Kieran McConnell who has been ranked as the top Under 16 discus thrower both in Ireland and the UK. Kieran who is a member of Finn Valley A.C. now living in Milton Keynes will be playing rugby over the winter season and will resume his throwing training in the spring.
Christmas PartyThe juvenile committee are putting their final preparations to the Christmas Party. Please note that it is fancy dress and starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday 18th December for the younger ones and 9 p.m. for the older juveniles.
Football TournamentThere will be a football tournament on Tuesday, 16th December, starting at 7.00 p.m. on the club's astro turf pitches for all the juvenile athletes instead of training. Come along for the fun; mixed teams but only the girls are allowed to score!
Boxing Day RacePlease contact Neil Martin if you wish to enter for the Boxing Day run/walk to raise money for charity and meet up with friends. You can also enter on the day. Details available at the centre.
Tracksuit TopsTracksuit tops are still available at the centre and would make a lovely Christmas present for those athletes who do not have one.
