Finn Valley AC in seventh heaven in Tullamore

McGinley completed his hat-trick on the final day of action, winning the 1500m to add to the 800m and 3000m steeplechase gold medals he won the previous weekend.

McGinley blew the field away in the 1500m final. McGinley, coached by John Rogan, won in 4:01.82 to land his third gold. His 52-second final lap outlined his quality on this stage.

Cara Laverty added another string to her bow, winning the U19 1500m.

Laverty’s 4:38.89 saw off Leevale’s Jane Buckley in a pulsating tussle for the line.

Laverty recently broke Noelle Harron’s 1988 Finn Valley AC record over 800m and her stock continued to rise.

Hannah Murray won the U17 girls 400m crown in 58.83 seconds and Blaine Lynch won the Under-16 javelin, reaching out to 51.97 metres.

Riona Doherty was an impressive winner of the U15 80m hurdles. Doherty secured gold with a new personal best of 11.81 seconds. Doherty added the hurdles gold to the long jump and 100m she won last weekend.

Amy Timoney was fourth in the final having set the second fastest time of the day to win her heat. But for a stroke of misfortune, Amy would certainly have been among the medals.

Dean Leeper was the silver medalist in the U15 javelin, going beyond 41m, while the club’s newest recruit, Eimear McCarroll, took the U17 1500m silver in 4:41.88.

The Finn Valley AC Jubilee 10k - the last race in the club’s Jubilee series - takes place at 10am on Sunday next, August 22. Entries cost €25 and included is a special jubilee medallion and a beanie hat.  Entries can be made online, via the link from the club Facebook page. Check-in from 8.30am on the day.
