FINN Valley AC’s Dermot McElchar was the winner of Sunday’s Donegal Masters Cross-Country race.

 

In a superb race with a real battle for the lead, Dermot put the boot down on the last lap to claim the victory and lead a magnificent day for Finn Valley AC in Carndonagh.

With John McElhill (6th), Shane McNulty (7th) and team captain Barry Gallagher (12th) backing the winner McElchar, Finn Valley took the Masters Men’s team crown.

Finn Valley also won team golds in the under-10 girls, under-12 boys, under-12 girls and under-18 girls, while the Over 50 Masters women also won team gold.

Finn Valley AC dominated the Under-12 girls race with the top five positions The race was won by Niamh McGlinchey, who was ably backed by Aoibhin McElhinney, Amy McElchar, Andrea Reid and Saorla McGlinchey for a dominant team victory.

Sarah Bradley, Nuala Bose and Emer O’Brien had a Finn Valley one-two-three in the under-18 girls race.

Finn Valley’s Joshua O’Donnell edged the under-12 boys race from Caoimhin Crawford of Inishowen with Finn Valley AC’s Mark Alexander in third.

Finn Valley trio Evie Gallagher (under-8 girls), Caoimhe McElhinney (under-10 girls) and Shay McHugh (under-8 boys) landed individual golds. 

Ryan Quinn won silver in the boys under-18 race, Rhia Toner scooped the silver in the under-10 girls, Odhran McBrearty took silver in the under-14 boys, Ciara Kerrigan and Zara Alexander won silver and bronze in the under-16 girls, Mark Alexander was the under-12 boys’ bronze medalist, Dylan Temple won bronze in the under-10 boys, Emily McBride took the under-8 girls bronze and Kai Carlin left with the under-8 boys bronze.

The Finn Valley Masters over-50s women enjoyed a team victory led by Ita Kelly (silver) and Noreen Bonner (bronze) and backed up by strong runs from Geraldine Browne and Gloria Donaghey.

At the National Road Relays, the Finn Valley team of Jennifer Elvin, Catriona Devine and Kay Byrne earned team silver, behind Raheny.

Finn Valley’s Eimear McCarroll was on the winning Northern Ireland team at the London Mini Marathon at the weekend.

Well done to the Finn Valley AC group who completed the Belfast Marathon on Sunday: John Griffen, Ramona Gallagher, Paddy Doherty, Cora Harvey, Joanne Campbell, Goretti Marley, Sonya O Donnell, Edward Crawford and Mariosa Crawford.

A Finn Valley AC relay team of Diane McGarrigle, Edel Neeley, Stephanie Rushe, Mary Martin and Selina Russell also completed the event. A serious achievement for all those runners.

Finn Valley AC’s Remembrance 10k takes place on Sunday, November 7 with a 10am start. Come and share the memories of the loved ones we love and miss with our community spirit, remembrance wall and balloon release.  Online entry is open.

In America, Tristan Kelly registered a 13-second PB of 26.22 minutes over 8k at the Louisville XC Classic in Kentucky at the weekend. Racing with Union University, Tristan was his team’s first scorer for the third consecutive race.

The Finn Valley AC active schools' run—jog-walk challenge is continuing as the club celebrates its 50th anniversary. 

Children complete just over 1km/1mile a day over an agreed period and in the last week medals have been presented to St Mary’s NS Stranorlar, Scoil Bhríde Convoy, St Patrick’s NS Drumkeen, S N An Choimin, SN Taobhóige and Carndonagh NS.
