Finn Valley take 3 Ulster titles

It was a cold brisk day but the younger brigade remained undaunted as they faced into the biggest test of the season so far the Ulster u 10-18 cross country champs at Antrim Saturday .

They came out of the blocks as it were in an aggressive manner winning the u 10 team titles both boys and girls exciting for this group their first ever step into the world of provincial athletics at cross country .

Lets begin with the girls all a product of the local schools scene scoring members of the team led home by Nia Byrne supported by the St Marys Ns Castlefinn duo of Adriena Mc Glinchey and Jennifer Dooher plus Eva Gallen O Dwyer and Holly Mc Nulty Niamh Mc Glinchey .Valley getting there with an impressive team total ahead of Cranford who had the ind. winner in Cliodha Mc Bride.

Next up the boys confidence high and led by a very focused young boy from Dromore N S Mark Wilkinson 2nd behind Curley Mid Ulster with excellent team closing in of Oisin Mullen Sessiaghoneill NS , Josh Ryan and Taylor Crossan both Lurgybrack NS in fact it was to be a team Donegal 123 Valley ,Rosses and Lac . To that Valley top 4 add Matthew Mc Geehin, Oisin Lynch,Caolan Burns Pauric Mc Gettigan,Declan Patton ,KIllian Rushe , Jacob Malone .The strength is in the squad

Moving on to u 12 girls disappointment return but the boys in this age category nailed it perfectly with a winning team ahead of Lac and followed closely by yet another Valley squad that's a positive result in many ways names to consider here Gallagher boys Harry and Shaun ,Shea Leonard ,Odhran Mc Brearty .Team result Finn Valley 2 Letterkenny  3 Finn Valley .

The lead Valley athlete in the u 14 girls was Zara Alexander continuing to compete strongly and Sarah Bradley was our lead in u 16 girls and needs to find 15 secs improvement to make that scoring Ulster team nationals which she is well capable of doing . The lead runner u16 boys was OIsin Toye who will be anxious to improve in nationals from this outing training well but it didn't happen for him in Antrim.

The u 18 girls picked up silver behind Lagan Valley just the 4 pts in it a race won by the impressive Tirconnaill athlete Mia Mc Calmont with leading the Valley charge Cassie Lagan 6th supported by Karen Gallagher , Daniella Jansen and Aoife Mc Grath .
