Finn Valley Underage success at Ulster level

The what is termed the new season as tradition dictates it begins October 1st is well and truly underway once again and it was the turn of the Finn Valley  ac u 11-19 and novice athletes to engage Ulster cross country Sunday with a large group travelling . THe highlight in terms of team and individual performances came per u 19 girls placing 3 in top 5 to win scoring Cassie Lagan Karen Gallagher and Aoife Mc Grath indeed should they continue to improvei n the month ahead the strong possibility is this squad can medal nationals . The boys at u 19 also coped extremely well led by Ben Carr 8th  supported by a squad of  Karol Mc Ginley ,Adam Mc Granaghan Donnachaid Parkinson and Odhran O Donnell 10 pts adrift of St Malachys Belfast . Can the use the intervening period to shut down that 10pts and put themselves in medal contention come nationals
There was medal performances u 11girls team result all Donegal Lac from OLympian and Valley led by Elily Kelly Nia Byrne Adriana Mc Glinchey and Aime Leonard A big battle ensued in the u 11 boys engaging Valley Lac and City Of Derry  all eventually in medals q for nationals with Valleys quartet led by Jack Mc Glinchey on board Odhran Mc Brearty Conor Gallagher and Josh Ryan .There is currently a hard working bunch of young  boys in the u 9 -13 age divisions . Hence medals for our 13 boys behind Lac 61 against 77 pts the team scoring .That was Harry and Shaun Gallagher Oisin Lynch and Fionn Farren from Castlefinn . The u 13 girls weren't strong enough on the day placing 4th team a noteworthy run by Zara Alexander 6th with scoring support from Ella Mc Glinchey Niamh Ryan Katie Dowds Maria Kelly . Other lead runners in 15 and 17 age bracket came per Conor Murphy ,Sarah Bradley Aaron Quinn and Sara O Neill .
Always important to field in championship races at provincial and when at all possible at  national hence great to see squads carry the colours in men 9th team with Barry Gallagher lead and women 10th team Joanne Mc Nabb lead. Team coach with novice Mark Connolly would be proud of the attitude of these athletes . The challenge for Finn Valley ac is to engage the many tens of Fit4Life at club to go that step further which is in fact novice . The novice races were a testament to the strength of Donegal currently in this area of the sport as each of the races were dominated both ind. and team by local athletes . Well done all
This weekend begins Friday as there is an exodus to Swansea for the Masters International Saturday . Strong support travelling so best wishes to Kay Byrne , Noreen Bonner , Barry Harron Teresa Doherty and Catriona Devine and the 5 other county athletes involved .
