It’s all about Europe at Finn Valley AC this week.

Their selections come after impressive weekend runs.

Roisin was the bronze medal at the Irish Senior Cross Country Championships in Santry.

Eilish won the Rothman Orthopaedics 8k in Philadelphia, an impressive time of 26:07 catapulting her into the frame. She, too, has been picked by the Irish selectors for the European Cross.

The Flanagan sisters won silver medals with Ireland at the European U23 Cross-Country Championships in Bela Vista Park, Lisbon in 2019.

The Gortin women are both Masters students at Adams State University, where they are coached by Damon Martin.

Finn Valley AC won the under-20 women’s team title on Sunday in impressive style.

Cara Laverty led the way in 11th with Sara Bradley 14th. Nuala Bose (23rd) and Eimear McCarroll (38th) were the other scorers.

The John Rogan-coached quartet will now compete at the European Champion Clubs Cup in the spring.

During a golden-laden period in the 1990s, Finn Valley AC regularly competed on the European stage.

Cara Laverty received confirmation this week that she has been accepted to a sports scholarship at Providence College.

This summer,  Laverty took the women’s 800m gold medal at the Ulster Seniors in a club record time of 2:09.27.

Her time wiped out the previous best, the 2:07.48 clocked by Noelle Harron at Meadowbank in 1988.

Sarah Bradley, Nuala Bose and Emer O’Brien were part of the silver medal winning Ulster under-18 team.

Finn Valley had other teams competing on Sunday in Santry.

The under-14 boys finished seventh with Odhran McBrearty, Conor Gallagher, Brian Lyons and Conor Lyons scoring.

The under-12 girls team of Niamh McGlinchey, Andrea Reid, Amy McElchar and Saorla Gilligan were sixth.

The under-12 boys finished eighth with Joshua O’Donnell, Caolan Gillespie, Mark Alexander and Dan Duffy scoring.

The Finn Valley AC Sprint Academy continues every Sunday morning and is now really gathering momentum under the direction of former BBC Coach of the Year Stephen Maguire. The Sprint Academy takes place at 9.45amin Drumboe Forest.

The Valley Bar & Bistro is once again open for business: Friday 4.30-11.30pm; Saturday 2pm-11.30pm; Sunday 12noon-11.30pm. Please direct all bookings to 087-2847912.
