Looking Forward Looking Back

We take the opportunity to look back in this our 40th year . Mention of that brings attention to the exciting black tie event in Jacksons Hotel ,November 18th . Tickets now available for what is a celebration of those 40 years and with the committee having plans for a Mr/Mrs competition and a few other engagements the point of those proud 40 years will be underlined . And then truly we can move on towards 50 . Looking back we print a photo of James Speight settling down in Iowa and extend good wishes to him and to Pauric as busy as ever and learning all the time.

The attached photos are flashes of a winning Cranford team in 1970 and of course they the club that is celebrate 50 years this year a pivotal club in the history of the club in this area . A Valley  senior cross country team which won the senior in Belfast beating Belfast Olympic a serious feat any day of the week , Hugo Duggan pictured opening the long jump indoor facility at the Old Factory that was Finn Valley 25/30 years ago Hugo a club member was at that time National senior long jump champion . Manus O Donnell 1973/74 in the Gaa field with familar faces from that time , Rosaleen Mc Gonagle running a race in Derry, its overlooked the immense contribution that she has made since 1971 ,Kathleen Merritt appears in a few shots and she began with the club as a 7 year old on a wet miserable day in Dunfanaghy . Theres a photo of Gerry Mc Donnell Ulster secretary for a lifetime the Strabane man always in the thick of things as an administrator and at those Community Games where the picture was taken Liam Merritt and Patsy Mc Ginty two men who travelled the length and breath of the country in the early days . A snapshot of the Centre as it was but it has received many makeovers since as we improved matters bit by bit and can you catch a glimpse of Damien Gillespie ,Sessiaghoneil on an under 13 boys cross country team .And finally Conor Mc Gonagle who day in day out as he balances his day job turns up without any prompting and sets about whatever task there may be at that time . And Study that Belfast cross country team looking out at you is Cieran Carlin, Neil Martin and Mark Connolly still as active in the day to day stuff as ever . And did you 50 year old James Gibbons in there . Photographs bring back great memories create the tradition and Sunday next another generation will have their photo taken and add to the story .
