The Finn Valley ac Stephens Day 5k goes ahead once again , is the longest successive road event in the North West beginning as it did in the early 70's and despite weather challenges on a small number of occassions the show has always gone ahead . There has been many an exciting day and memorable occassions as double  olympic champions Mo Farah ,England and world and olympic champion Vivial Cheryuiot ,Kenya graced the occassion  and there has been many notable personalities getting the event underway indeed the star time of the event this year goes to a new start time of 12 noon . Entry on the day or at reception Finn Valley in the intervening weeks which is recommended if one is to avoid the inevitable Q . Popular event as families ,and many home in the area for the festive season join in to swell the numbers whether running,jogging or walking . An abundance of prizes and refreshments the norm with everybody welcome for what is above all a community event  . The honorary starter for 2017 will be announced  for the day will be announced in coming weeks .  Its one of those occassions thats firmly set in the mindset of the local community after 47 years interesting to note that this event began in the neighbouring woods at Drumboe with 20 approx involved then it was organised as a handicap race athletes being given a start based on fitness / ability . At its best in recent years 800 approx have turned out .
