ULSTER WINTER THROWS FESTIVAL

 

There were lots of personal best performances none more impressive than sixteen-year-old Diarmuid Duffy, Lake District AC in Mayo who improved his personal best by over two metres with an effort of 61.58m on his first throw in the Javelin competition.  Azoulis Varnelli, Templemore AC in Tipperary had the longest throw in the hammer competition with 50.90m in his last throw. Cian Mc Kenna, Glaslough Harriers had the longest throw in the Discus competition with a personal best of 35.43m. John O’ Dwyer, Templemore and Cian Mc Kenna, Glaslough both had throws of 11.55m in the shot. Margaret Higgins from Corofin in Galway is a well-known singer and she travelled to the competition with less than two hours sleep after performing on Saturday night and was rewarded with several good performances. Ulster secretary Martin O’ Donnell, Olympian recorded a personal best throw of 31.10m in the O/45 Javelin. Claire Kennedy from Birr A C in County Offaly had two personal best performances of 32.58m in the U/17 Discus and 35.82m in the Hammer. Kayley Cozens, Templemore had a best performance of 40.64m to win the U/17 Hammer

Damian Crawford, Lifford/Strabane winner Senior Javelin

Martin O’ Donnell, Olympian winner O/45 Javelin

Bosco Reid, Finn Valley winner O/60 Shot and Discus.

The next Ulster Throws Festival is scheduled to take place in March.

ULSTER NOVICE AND UNEVEN AGES CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

 Next Saturday sees the Ulster Uneven ages and Novice Cross-Country Championships taking place in the Finn Valley Complex the first championship event starts at 11.30, however Finn Valley are promoting races for U/9’s and these start at 11.00. The Full Results will be available in next week’s paper.
