Valley Masters Going Strong

Athlone I T was the journeys end for 10 Finn Valley master athletes Sunday the occasion the national master indoor champs . Master athletics is open to those over 35 and is relative then in 5 year age categories and in the increasing awareness of the sport more and more nationally indeed internationally are engaging hence the input from Finn Valley who tend to involve members in all aspects in the sport

Early start 1120 am and early success with Sinead Mc Connell in the 3k walk out to retain her title and she certainly did in fine style with a new national record at 15.37.01 setting her teammates up for what was to be a most enjoyable day . Within an hour Brian O Domhnaill had won the 3k walk to add to the Leinster title from the previous weekend then Isabella Breslin was in gold medal position and husband Brian added to the family tally later in the day . Patrick Galvin who is also a valued coach was in winning form long jump 60m and high .Bosco Reid has retained his Finn Valley ac connection since he was a young boy and annually has competed more recently in masters events winning shot on this day out . The medal hit was rising with Catriona Devine  who is the current Irish record holder took impressive 800m title and added a medal in the 1500m at the end of a long day . Donna Evans 1500m a silver and Kieran Carlin bronze 1500m kept the positive feeling going and with a bronze to Frankie Murray all of the 10 that travelled had good news performing well reacting to an enthusiastic Finn Valley support base that included family and fellow athletes a day to remember for these young at heart athletes .
